Located in the southeast corner of Butler County along the I-75 corridor, West Chester is the fifth largest community in the greater Cincinnati area with more than 56,000 residents, surrounded by larger cities like Springdale, Fairfield, Mason, Hamilton and Middletown. It is a thriving center for industry and the city’s economy comprises a dynamic mix of the manufacturing, information technology and telecommunication sectors. West Chester’s major employers include the Lakota School District, Pierre Frozen Foods, Lenscrafters and Liz Claiborne. Recreational opportunities are abundant in the city. Beautiful parks and quality recreation programs offer everything from wooded trails, soccer facilities and tennis courts to playgrounds, picnic areas and outdoor concerts. The Voice of America Park is a 325-acre recreational hub featuring championship soccer fields, baseball diamonds and a skate park. It also hosts annual family festivals, such as Freedom Fest and the Spring Festival of Dog Agility. The Lakota School District serves West Chester students. Lakota is a Native American word meaning “unity” and district schools unite to provide quality education for more than 16,000 students. Four Lakota students were named National Merit semi-finalists in 2003 and students taking the High School Proficiency Test have a passing rate of approximately 75%. The teacher-student ratio is favorable and a high percentage of high school graduates attend college.
